NEWAYGO COUNTY (WKZO) — A suspected bank robber who died in a shootout with a Wisconsin State Trooper in March, is now believed to responsible for bank heists in Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio.
Steven Snyder was called the “respectful robber” by the FBI because of his demeanor during the early robberies in small towns in Northern Michigan but Newaygo County Sheriff Pat Hedlund says that would change as they began to close in on him.
After a bank robbery in Wisconsin in March, and the shooting death of a civilian, Snyder was spotted by Rookie trooper Trevor Casper north of Fon-Du-Lac, and in the gunfight that followed both Casper and Snyder were mortally wounded.
Using DNA, travel records, credit card receipts and other records, they have been able to connect Snyder to nine unsolved bank robberies so far.
