DOWAGIAC (WKZO) — A physical altercation between a 63-year-old Van Buren County man and a 54-year-old from Illinois ended abruptly when the older man allegedly pulled a gun and shot the visitor.
Arriving officers found the Illinois man bleeding from a gunshot wound.
The shooting victim was stablilized at Borgess Lee Memorial, then transferred to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
The older man drove to a location where his cell phone had service, because stormy weather was passing through the area at the time.
He called 9-1-1 to report the shooting.
He was taken into custody, treated for the injuries he suffered in the fight and then booked into the Van Buren County Jail on a felonious assault charge.
The victim is listed in stable condition after emergency surgery.
