OCEOLA COUNTY (WKZO) — One man is dead and a State Trooper facing a shooting review after the Trooper shot and killed the victim in a traffic accident who was behaving erratically in Oceola County.
It started with a call that a driver had flipped his car on its side along M-115, and was acting strangely, trying to push the car back onto its wheels.
State Police Lt. Larry Schloegl says they dispatched a trooper and as he arrived, the suspect…44-year-old Eugene Kailing came at the Trooper with a pipe.
The Trooper at first hit him with the Taser and when that didn’t stop the assailant, he shot him.
Lt. Schloegl says the shooting appears to be by the book but will be investigated.
Kailing was an ex-con with a criminal history of destruction of police property and felonious assault.
He was being sought for violating parole and an officer safety caution had been attached to his file, warning responding officers that he might be dangerous.
His daughter says he had just been released from Jail on Friday where he did not receive any of his meds for a bipolar disorder.
