BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) — Battle Creek Public School Trustees will meet again Monday afternoon to consider a red-hot proposal to close two elementary schools to help balance next year’s budget, by cutting costs.
Supt. Linda Hicks will once again recommend that LaMoraPark and Coburn elementary schools be closed, and their students consolidated at other buildings.
While parents say they don’t want to lose the convenience of their neighborhood schools, Dr. Hicks she has to erase a 2.5-million dollar deficit from next year’s budget.
Trustees have spent the last month studying the proposals. A staff committee has an alternative, but it also proposes closing two elementary buildings.
The Board will meet at 5:30 at the McQuistonCenter and a final vote is expected this evening.
