KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday July 12th is officially Walt Disney Day in Kalamazoo.
It marks the 54th anniversary of Walt Disney’s first visit to Kalamazoo as he visited his friend Donald Gilmore, founder of the Gilmore Museum.
It’s also a send off celebration for a group of WMU students who will retracing Disney’s steps and reliving his life in a pilgrimage across the country.
The eight students and their instructor will begin their trip in Chicago, where Disney was born, and end their journey at his grave site in Southern California.
Dr. Christopher Tremblay conducts the annual pilgrimage as part of Lee Honors College’s Study in the States program.
They plan to visit more than 40 stops in nine days.
