KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A shooting investigation in Kalamazoo has resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old.
All officers found when they were first dispatched to the scene on North Rose Street last Friday was a couple of .40-caliber bullet cartridges and witness accounts of a fleeing SUV.
Kalamazoo Public Safety got a break in the case an hour later when a man claiming to be the victim called and they were able to identify a suspect. He claimed he was sitting in his car when the suspect drove up and opened fire. There is no indication that the man claiming to be the victim was wounded.
On Saturday, officers executed a warrant at the suspect’s last known address on Lakeway Avenue and found the teenager at home.
He was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail on an outstanding warrant.
A search of the home turned up a pair of guns and marijuana packaged for sale.
Investigators are seeking attempted murder, drug possession and several felony warrants for gun violations from the prosecutor’s office.
