KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — With gas prices hovering near the $3 a gallon mark, officials with Kalamazoo Metro Transit are urging people to “dump the pump” on Thursday.
The aim of the 11th-annual National Dump the Pump Day is to get people thinking about taking alternative forms of transportation instead of pulling their gas-guzzling cars and trucks out of the garage.
Transportation Director Sean McBride said Kalamazoo has a public transit gem.
“We provide over 3 million rides every year, we have a fixed-route bus system that serves the urban area of Kalamazoo county, and we have a van system that serves all of Kalamazoo County that’s available to everyone,” McBride said.
Officials with Metro are hoping the event will introduce more people to the system before the start of expanded evening and Sunday service in September.
