BATTLE CREEK (WTVB-AM) — Two men in their late 20s from Calhoun County’s Newton Township are dead after a pickup crash early Thursday south of Battle Creek.
Michigan State Police were called after 4 a.m. following the discovery of the victim’s vehicle by a newspaper delivery person. The pickup had struck a tree on Oak Grove Road south of J Drive South.
The two men were found trapped in the pickup and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the southbound truck lost control on icy roads. Speed and alcohol also appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
The exact time of the collision isn’t known, but it’s believed to have occurred early Thursday morning.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
