KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A lawyer representing the wife and children of 45-year-old suspected gunman Jason Dalton says his family is just as perplexed and surprised as everyone else with the explosion of violence that resulted in six shooting deaths across three Kalamazoo locations last weekend.
Carol Dalton told attorney Paul Vlachos there have been no major marital or financial changes in her husband’s life prior to the murders, but he had seemed depressed lately.
“He’s been asking different in the last couple of days,” Vlachos said. “His wife asked him, and he said he was tired.”
He told ABC News that the killings are completely out of character, describing Dalton as a gregarious and upbeat person.
“A good father, well-known in the community, well-liked, and there was nothing to indicate that something like this would occur,” Vlachos said.
Former Calhoun County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Eusebio Solis has been appointed to represent Dalton. He’s been charged with six counts of open murder, two counts of attempted murder and eight gun felonies.
