KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The mother of the first victim in last weekend’s shootings in Kalamazoo County has issued a statement.
“Our hearts reach out to all families touched by this senseless tragedy,” the mother of Tiana Carruthers said. “We appreciate every prayer and tender thought extended to us.”
Neighbor Tammy George found Carruthers bleeding outside her residence in a townhome complex northeast of Kalamazoo after bullets ripped through her closet.
“She was asking about her kids,” George said. “Then (was) asking, ‘Why did he shoot me?’”
They say Carruthers has since been able to identify accused killer Jason Dalton from a photo lineup as the man who shot her.
She is in serious condition at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, recovering from multiple wounds.
She is expected to survive.
