KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The parents of the 14-year-old girl who survived Saturday’s mass murders in Kalamazoo says she’s still fighting for her life.
They say Abigail Kopf is still alive, contrary to initial reports.
“Everybody needs to get that straight — my daughter is not dead,” Vickie Koph, Abigail’s mother, said Monday night. “She is alive and she is fighting for her life.”
The mother said her child is on life support and in an induced coma. She said they had almost given up hope, when they got a sign.
“Actually, she squeezed my hand,” she said. “It was a miracle on its own.”
The Harper Creek High School student was among four women shot as they sat in a pair of cars at the Cracker Barrel restaurant on 9th Street in Texas Township.
Her heart did stop at one point immediately after the paramedics responded to the scene, but were able to get it going again.
