WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO)– It’s been a bad year already for tax scams, one of the worst on record according to IRS Spokesman Luis Garcia, and its continued, even though tax day has come and gone.
Con men are now calling up victims and telling them that the refund they thought they had coming is actually what they owe, and they need to pay now. Don’t believe it.
The IRS works through the mail, not the phones, and they would never demand immediate payment as these scam artists do.
He says they are clever. They may have your personal numbers from other sources and caller ID may even list them as the IRS.
They are asking that anyone has received a call to report it so they can compile information on the con artists and their techniques.
