CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries after they tried to veer away from a deer on Interstate 94 late Thursday night.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that rescue crews were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. to a crash at the I-69 and I-94 interchange in Marshall Township.
When they arrived they found a 51-year-old Grand Ledge man who had reportedly left the roadway in an attempt to dodge a deer, ending up crashing in a nearby ditch.
The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries resulting from the crash and was transported to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall where he underwent emergency surgery.
Following the procedure he was taken to Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo where he was listed in critical condition.
A statement by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says that the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority and Marshall Township Fire Department assisted at the crash scene.
