LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all bars and restaurants in the state to stop dine in service as of 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Michigan.
Take out and delivery will still be allowed under the order.
More details are expected during a press conference which was scheduled for late Monday morning
Four other states including Ohio and Illinois have made similar announcements in recent days.
Whitmer issued an order last Friday which limited gatherings to no more than 250 people. But that order was not obeyed at many bars and restaurants on the last weekend before Saint Patrick’s Day.
She said during a Sunday evening news conference that pictures online of “people cramming into facilities” were “incredibly disturbing.”
Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan had risen to 53 as of Sunday night.
The number of cases have been going up every day since last Tuesday when the first two cases were confirmed.
