LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is reassuring folks who are concerned about voter fraud following the state’s decision to send absentee ballot applications to every registered voter in Michigan.
Benson says ballots are not sent back to applicants unless the signature on their request matches the signature on their voter registration.
Critics of the move, like state Senator and former Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, have expressed concerns about applications being sent to people who have moved or passed away, the cost of the mailings, and Benson’s motives.
Benson has said in the past that the decision was made to ensure Michiganders who want to avoid COVID-19 at the polls are able to do so without giving up their vote. She says anyone who receives an application for someone who has moved or died should send it to their local clerk with a note explaining the situation to help them update their voter rolls.
