GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – Grand Rapids students will not be back in school when the academic year starts this fall.
Grand Rapids Public Schools officials announced during a virtual news conference yesterday that they plan to conduct the first nine weeks of classes entirely online, but Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby said that plan could change depending on the status of the coronavirus outbreak.
GRPS says it will provide each student with the devices they need to get access to their classes, and that it will ensure that students also have internet access. More details are expected to come during an upcoming Academic Achievement Committee meeting with the school board and virtual town hall, which are both scheduled for August 5.
Dr. Roby says student and staff safety remains their top goal.
