KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — HopCat restaurant in downtown Kalamazoo is closed for the time being after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee was asymptomatic and worked Friday July 24th through Sunday July 26th.
A Facebook post from the restaurant states that all of their employees have been following the guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control. It reads, “Within our four walls, all employees followed all of our safety protocols including our regular sanitizing processes that occur daily. They wore face masks at all times, gloves when handling food or drink, and followed handwashing directions every half hour. They were screened daily for fever and symptoms. The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority.”
It goes on to say that the risk of transmission among employees and guests is very low based on the practices used by HopCat.
This comes after another HopCat employee tested positive at the end of June after visiting Harper’s Brewpub in East Lansing which was connected to hundreds of coronavirus cases.
It’s unclear when the restaurant will reopen but the statement says they hope to return “in the coming days.”
