KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After a lot of criticism from protesters about the way the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety handled recent demonstrations, the city is now putting together a website to address their issues.
Deputy City Manager Jeff Chamberlain made that announcement during the Kalamazoo city commission meeting Monday evening.
Among the items that will be posted will be the KDPS budget, its policies and procedures, recruiting and training methods for new officers and other frequently asked questions.
Chamberlain says there have been a lot of questions regarding the Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeal Board like how do they operate and what their roles are, so that will also be posted on the future website.
In addition, residents will be able to view information on the department’s internal and external reviews of the recent protests and how KDPS’ activities compare to “8 Can’t Wait,” President Obama’s 21st Century Policing Report, and other reforms.
Chamberlain says they hope to have it online in a week and it will be updated as new reports and investigations are completed.
