SALEM TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An elderly man is dead after he was found near a flipped kayak in an Allegan County lake.
Deputies were called to Monterey Lake in Salem Township, north of Hopkins around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a flipped kayak with a man in the water.
The 75-year-old victim was pulled from the water and resuscitation efforts were attempted but he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses believe the kayak overturned and the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol is now investigating the incident. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Michigan State Police, Michigan DNR, Wayland EMS, Salem Fire Department, and Sandy Pines Security.
