KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A domestic assault suspect is now in custody thanks to the tracking work of a Kalamazoo Public Safety K9.
Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of East Cork Street near Cameron Street in the Milwood Neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. Monday after a report of a domestic assault, but when they arrived they learned that the suspect ran away from the scene.
That’s when they launched K9 Ozzy who tracked through several yards, going over multiple fences, until they found the suspect hiding in the backyard of a home in the 3600 block of Lincolnshire Boulevard, about half of a mile from the original scene.
The suspect, who also had two outstanding warrants, was arrested for domestic assault and resisting and obstructing officers and booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Specifics on the incident were not released. The case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors office for review.
