MONTGOMERY, ILL. (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Illinois are reporting that a suspect involved in a 2019 Kalamazoo shooting has been located, and after being pursued by a SWAT team has been arrested by officers.
35-year-old Scott Jones was spotted around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21st in Montgomery, Illinois.
Jones is accused of killing 20-year-old Antonio Reese-Manley, who was found severely injured with gunshot wounds at Kalamazoo’s Fox Ridge Apartments on September 21st, 2019. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Kalamazoo authorities have issued several warrants for Jones arrest, including charges of open murder and felony firearm offenses.
Local Montgomery police, Kane County Sheriff’s deputies, and a SWAT team were dispatched to a duplex home where Jones was staying on the 700 block of Oakton Road around 6:45 A.M, after receiving calls of a reported assault by Jones.
According to police, the residents of the home are related to the suspect.
Following a multi-hour standoff, officers announced that they had successfully captured the suspect without incident around 8:50 A.M.
Jones is now being transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center before being extradited to Michigan.
He previously was listed as a parole absconder by the Michigan Department of Corrections after fleeing to Illinois in June of 2019. Jones has previously served time for drug possession, weapons charges, and home invasion.
