KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — No job is too small for the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Crews were dispatched to Kleinstuck Preserve off of Stearns Avenue in the Westnedge Hill Neighborhood around 9 a.m. on Saturday in regards to a dog stuck in the middle of the marsh.
A public safety officer and a Kalamazoo County Animal Control officer heard the dog barking and a rescue boat was called to the scene, but when they began searching they could not located the dog because it had stopped barking.
After an hour, they decided to stop the search but before they left the animal control officer heard the dog barking again.
Crews put the boat back into the water and checked a different area of the marsh. A drone was launched to help with the search and the stranded dog was located. Officers safely got the dog back to shore and turned it over to Kalamazoo County Animal Control.
The dog appeared to be in good health and now they’re working to identify the dog’s owner.
