BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Public Health Department were notified on Thursday that a Sheriff’s Department corrections staff member showed symptoms of COVID-19 and is a probable case.
Officials say the corrections deputy does not have responsibilities that involved direct contact with inmates and is self-isolating at home.
Also on Thursday, an inmate was admitted at the jail with COVID-19 symptoms, including elevated temperature. It was identified immediately during the intake process and officials say all precautions were put in place.
The subject was placed in a medical negative pressure isolation cell and tested. This is being treated as a probable case and results are pending.
According to a statement issued by county officials, there is no connection between these two cases.
