KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, organizers of the Kalamazoo Do-Dah Parade have moved the event to August.
The decision comes in accordance with the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and in compliance with social distancing guidelines. Officials say more guidelines may be announced in the future.
As a result, the application deadline has also been moved to July 10.
The purpose of the parade is to “use a parody to create a laughable and fun parade that will create conversation.” Participants can parody a person, place, event or thing, or dress in line with the chosen parade theme.
The theme this year has been announced as “Hindsight is 20/20.”
“The theme of Hindsight is 20/20 allows us to bring back some of the great Do-Dah entries,” officials said. “Look Back. Some of the best entries are re-creations.”
This parade has been taking place since 1984 and was modeled after the similar “Doo Dah” parade in Pasadena, California.
Interested participants can find more information, including how to apply, online at the official parade website.
