BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The cereal manufacturer Post is taking additional safety precautions at its facilities after reporting that 10 factory employees have tested positive for COVID-19 in Battle Creek.
The company said in a released statement on Tuesday that the workers have been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days and will continue to be paid during the period.
Post has said that the Battle Creek facility where the employees worked has been deep cleaned to prevent further exposure and contact with traces of the virus. Company representatives have contacted all other staff members who came into close contact with the infected workers.
Although many businesses are closed during the COVID-19 outbreak, Post and other food manufacturers are continuing to operate during the stay-at-home order with their activities being considered essential by state authorities for maintaining food access and grocery supplies.
In response to the threat posed by COVID-19, Post recently implemented measures at its workplaces to minimize the risk of exposure, including performing temperature checks for those entering offices and factories, cleaning facilities more often and staggering shifts.
The Calhoun County Public Health Department says it is working in cooperation with the company to investigate and contain the outbreak at the Battle Creek facility.
