LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (WTVB) – The English Premier League has abandoned its original May 1 targeted restart date and has now labeled the suspension of its season as “indefinite” while asking players to take a substantial pay cut during the hiatus.
The most profitable soccer league in the world said it will only resume play once it has the full support of “government and medical guidance.” Teams have either nine or 10 games remaining on the EPL schedule, with runaway leader Liverpool needing two more wins to clinch its first title since 1990.
The news comes a day after UEFA informed European domestic leagues not to abandon the remaining games on their season schedules as it devises a plan to resume soccer competitions in either July or August.
