CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA (WTVB) – The City of Calgary has formally canceled all public events through June 30 due to the coronavirus epidemic, dealing another blow to the NHL’s hopes of being able to complete its regular season and conduct a full playoffs. The edict from mayor Naheed Nenshi makes Calgary the second major Canadian city to restrict public gatherings, with Toronto also having placed a ban on events through the end of June.
Four NHL players – two from the Senators and two from the Avalanche – have been publicly disclosed as testing positive for COVID-19, though league deputy commissioner Bill Daly said last week he’s still optimistic of playing a full regular season and playoffs even if the Stanley Cup Final isn’t held untilAugust.
