KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Three local marijuana dispensaries will be joining together with Mayoral Candidate David Benac for an educational event this week.
This Thursday, the dispensary Cannabazoo will host the event, which is meant to discuss cannabis legislation.
“With the passage of state legislation authorizing the recreational use of marijuana,” Cannamazoo owner Adam Tucker said, “we have seen a tremendous increase in interest related to cannabis.”
Billing itself as a “420-Friendly” event, attendees are welcome to smoke and consume cannabis products on the premises. However, no products will be available for purchase.
“While we continue to see increased interest, cannabis is still highly stigmatized,” Tucker added. “This event came about as a means to bring people of various backgrounds together to have a conversation about medical and recreational marijuana. We look forward to hearing David Benac speak as a mayoral candidate”
Mayoral Candidate David Benac will give a speech at 5:30, which will be followed by live music from Kalamazoo’s own country/blues band Smoke & Whiskey.
“This is a truly one-of-a-kind event. It is our hope that we can have a blend of diverse people join us for this important discussion,” Benac said.
Although the event is free, it requires registration to attend, which can be done online. Donations will also be collected for Benac’s campaign.
The event takes place this Thursday starting at 4:20 p.m. Attendees must be 21 years of age or older to attend.
The Cannamazoo dispensary is located at 2309 North Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
