KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A worldwide strike for climate action is going on Friday, and Kalamazoo is taking part.
Denise Keele, Chair of the WMU Climate Change Working Group, says over 5,000 cities across the world are joining in to show the urgency and awareness of the climate change crisis.
She says the youth will be the ones leading the adults during the strike because they are the ones that will be most affected by climate change.
Students and other advocates will assemble at the WMU flagpoles at 12:30 p.m. Friday. They will then march to downtown Kalamazoo and end at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place.
A strike event will then take place at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place from 3 until 6 p.m.
There will be speakers, live music, local artists and other activities.
