KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Mayor Bobby Hopewell is putting his support behind a long-time City Commissioner to fill his role as Kalamazoo’s next Mayor.
He officially announced that he is endorsing David Anderson, a 7th-term City Commissioner, saying that Anderson understands how to get things done with his experience on the commission, does the work, and has new ideas to build a better Kalamazoo.
In a statement, Hopewell wrote, “Being Mayor is not an entry-level job. Having served 14 years on the city commission, David understands how to get things done and best help all Kalamazooians. His experience matters…David has been building up this city for decades and, under his leadership, you will see him build the best future for everyone in Kalamazoo. David knows the vital role and impact the city has and can have on delivering everyday services to our citizens and understands our responsibility to move your vision forward that we established as part of Imagine Kalamazoo.”
The election for Mayor and the City Commission will be held on November 5th and absentee voting will begin later this month.
Hopewell, the longest-serving Mayor in Kalamazoo’s history, announced last May that he would not be seeking re-election.
