BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Battle Creek are reporting that two suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of robberies in the area.
According to an official press release, on Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, Battle Creek Police responded to the Check N Go at 5420 Beckley Rd for a report of an armed robbery.
Police say a man pointed a hand gun at an employee and demanded money. He left through the back of the store with and escaped in a truck behind the business. No one was injured in the robbery.
This robbery and the suspect matched two others in Battle Creek: Approved Cash at 1180 W. Columbia on 9/30/19 and Cash Advance at 590 W. Columbia on 5/23/19.
A warrant was issued for the 5/23 robbery while the 9/30 robbery remains under investigation. Police believe all three robberies were committed by the same suspect.
BCPD Detectives have also been working with Lansing Police on four robberies in the Lansing area in the same time frame that also appear to have been committed by the same man targeting check cashing businesses.
The suspect in Tuesday night’s robbery has been identified as 29-year-old James Honeysucker from Lansing. Detectives were able to track him to a bus station in Chicago where Chicago Police took him into custody without incident on this robbery and on a warrant from the 5/23 robbery.
Honeysucker had a hand gun and a large amount of cash on him. He was lodged at a local Chicago jail on BCPD’s robbery warrant and held on the robbery Tuesday.
Police were also able to locate the getaway vehicle used in the robberies out in Emmett Township. Wilnell Henry, a 46-year-old man from Battle Creek, was arrested without incident and was also found with a large amount of cash.
Henry is reportedly cooperating with police in the investigation. Police say Henry was arraigned Wednesday in Calhoun County District Court on charges of armed robbery and given a $150,000 bond.
BCPD Detectives are working with the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office, Chicago Police and Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on extradition for James Honeysucker.
“The citizens that helped call this robbery in and provide information on the suspect and vehicle were crucial in the quick apprehension of these men,” officials said in a press release. “This was a true community effort to stop these criminals before someone got injured.”
