KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Parents are praising Kalamazoo Public School officials for the way they handled the series of school threats in the area.
At their board meeting Thursday night, over a dozen parents thanked school administrators for the timely notifications they received and applauded the way it was handled when students returned to school the next day.
“Just because that information was passed on to us, it made me feel safe,” one parent said.
On November 11th, four Kalamazoo Public Schools closed after a threat was made to Loy Norrix High School overnight. Two students were eventually arrested for the threats, which sparked copycat threats targeting other schools throughout Kalamazoo County including Parchment, Portage, and Vicksburg.
Interim Superintendent Gary Start says he and his staff worked overnight to communicate with parents as they made the decision whether or not to hold classes.
Parents also expressed their appreciation for the extra security that was added when the schools reopened.
