BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Battle Creek has announced that it will be installing new bike lanes along a section of Roosevelt.
The project will remove one vehicle lane from Roosevelt between Garrison Avenue and Goodale Avenue East, near the Calhoun Area Career Center and Kellogg Community College.
“The city’s Non-Motorized Transportation Plan in 2006 included a proposed project to add bike lanes to Roosevelt Avenue,” the City said in a statement. “To make room for bike lanes, we will reduce the vehicle lanes from four to three; currently there are two vehicle traffic lanes in each direction.”
These lanes will be the first separated bike lanes installed in the city.
Battle Creek officials are planning an informational open house for citizens to discuss the new bike lanes in detail. The open house will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd at the Department of Public Works, located at 150 S. Kendall St.
The project is currently scheduled to begin in Summer 2020.
