KALAMAZOO AND BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Hunger-relief charity God’s Kitchen of Michigan, which serves Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, is asking the public for help with cash donations for this year’s Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
“We need donations to purchase food and supplies for our three holiday events,” Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan Pastor William Stein said in a press release. “Food is not cheap. We pay retail for the food just like everyone else.”
In August, American Idol contestant Matt Giraud hosted a fundraiser at Pizza Hut in Battle Creek that raised $523. The Holiday Dinner budget calls for $5,000.
“Our Cereal City fund drive is almost complete as we have received donations from a few churches and unions to underwrite our program,” Stein said. “However, no donations were made to the Kalamazoo project as of press time, today.”
The deadline for Kalamazoo’s Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner is Friday, November 15th, while Donations for both Battle Creek and Kalamazoo’s free community Christmas dinners is December 10th.
All holiday dinners are free and open to the public. There are no income, age, or identification requirements to participate.
God’s Kitchen of Michigan says that donations should be mailed to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003, or online at http://www.paypal.me/godskitchenofmich.
The organization asks donors to designate where they want donations to be applied.
Battle Creek’s Free Community Christmas Dinner will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at First United Methodist Church, 111 E. Michigan Avenue, downtown.
