OTSEGO (WKZO AM/FM) — MDEQ officials have begun testing the soil around the former Menasha Corporation’s Otsego Paper Mill and in fields where paper sludge and fly ash from the plant were dumped during the operation of the plant.
They also plan to test near roads where a black liquor sludge was used as a road-binder to fight dust on Allegan County Roads.
There are 38-test sites in all.
They will be testing for PFAS and a group of other industrial toxins.
It will take several weeks to complete the sampling and a while after that to finish the testing.
When the results are back, a public forum will be held to release them.
