(LANSING) (WKZO AM/FM) – A lawsuit has been filed by state Republicans to prevent the implementation of the redistricting commission.
The commission, approved by state voters last fall, would look into and redesign the congressional districts in the state instead of the Legislature, to avoid gerrymandering.
The guidelines prohibit anyone who has run for federal, state, or local partisan office, been a state employee, lobbyist, or political consultant in the last six years, from serving on the commission.
Those filing the lawsuit say those guidelines violate their First Amendment rights.
