KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo woman accused of a fatal fire on the city’s Eastside is now going to trial.
Melissa Morgan is charged with murder and arson for the death of Zachary Hayes who was found in a burned out home in the 400-block of Wallace Avenue back in February.
During Wednesday’s hearing prosecutors explained that there is evidence that Morgan was texting her boyfriend about how she was planning to kill Hayes before the home erupted in flames.
Morgan claims that she was raped by Hayes multiple times, but she refused to contact police and prosecutors say her statements simply don’t add up.
Surveillance videos from the incident show Morgan leaving the burning home with Justin Flegel, who claims he came to the home because Morgan texted him about the rapes.
Overall the judge ruled that there is enough evidence to go to trial.
