The State of Michigan has approved a $30 million dollar tax incentive in an $80 million project to convert an abandoned paper mill in Vicksburg into a new hotel.
The grant comes by way of a Transformational Brownfield Plan program through the Michigan Strategic Fund, which was approved Tuesday.
The project is meant to clean up and redevelop the industrial site of the paper mill, which closed its doors in 2001.
The proposed plans for the site include a hotel, residential space, retail space, microbreweries, event space and more.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation expects that around 220 full-time jobs will be created in Vicksburg as a result of this project.
