OSHTEMO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Bullets started flying at the Meijer on West Main in Oshtemo when a man allegedly assaulted several employees, attempting to flee the store.
Deputies say store personnel were attempting to detain him at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning for an unspecified fraud charge.
A customer, who was also assaulted, reacted by allegedly pulling out a pistol and firing several rounds in the general direction of the suspect.
The suspect ran out of the store, jumped into his vehicle and left the area in an unknown direction. They don’t think he was hit by any of the bullets.
He is described as a thin African American male of unknown age, approximately 5’8”, wearing a green/grey sweater, grey sweatpants, and a green ball cap.
No one requested medical attention as a result of the incident.
Deputies are reviewing surveillance video to try and identify the man.
Apparently the actions of the customer are also being reviewed to determine if his actions were justified given the situation and had the proper gun permit, but the news release suggests that was the case.
