KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Western Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety is welcoming two four-legged friends.
German Shepherds K-9 Brax and K-9 Oso are Kalamazoo County’s first explosion-detection canines.
The two will be used to sweep stadiums prior to events and be on patrol with their handlers at Western.
WMU Chief of Police Scott Merlo says the K-9s are already becoming a part of the community and their goal is that “the dogs will be used to enhance our community policing efforts, and the students will come to accept and love the dogs.”
Students can also interact with the officers and ask to pet the K-9s.
