VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A local high school band is preparing for their big night after being selected to perform for the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
The Vicksburg High School band will be traveling to play at the college football bowl game featuring a matchup between Georgia and Baylor on New Year’s Day, January 1st.
The band previously played the Sugar Bowl in 2010, and school officials say that they are excited to showcase student musical talent on the national state.
Known as the “Big Red Machine”, Vicksburg’s marching band will perform along with eight other bands from around the country. 130 of the 180 students in the band plan on making the trip by bus to the game, which includes excursions in Memphis that will feature live sets by the school’s jazz ensemble.
The day prior to the tournament, band members will participate in community service events and march in New Orlean’s New Year’s Eve parade.
