KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Red Cross is encouraging all able-bodied citizens to donate blood and/or blood platelets before the Christmas holiday, if possible.
The organization says that blood donations of all types – especially type O – are urgently needed now, as holiday travel and severe winter weather in parts of the country continue to impact the blood supply.
Those who donate between Dec. 19th and Jan. 5th with a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
“Blood and platelets are needed every day for those receiving treatment for cancer andleukemia, accident and burn victims and surgical patients, among others,” the organization said in a statement.
