KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities are warning residents about a continuing scam targeting residents in the area.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says that they have received reports of scam calls that include threats of jailtime and fines for outstanding warrants.
The callers are asking people to pay for the fines through giftcards, with purchasing numbers asked to be read back to them.
Deputies say common scam tactics such as calling and pretending to say your grandchild is in jail, or your computer needs repair are very typical.
To verify that a call is legitimate, The Kalamazoo County Sheiff’s Offices is asking people to contact them at (269) 383-8723 during regular business hours.
