WESTERN MICHIGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Homeowners along the shoreline of Lake Michigan have been dealing with erosion in the last few months that has only gotten worse.
The shoreline is said to continue deterioration this week as 9-foot waves are expected along Lake Michigan.
With the high waves, winds of around 30 MPH are expected as well.
Lake Michigan homeowners have been battling erosion in the last few months, with some being forced to build makeshift barriers for threatened homes.
The erosion problem is alarming to the point that the Michigan government sped up the application process for sandbag barriers last month.
Concerned homeowners can apply for a sandbag permit through the department website at https://miwaters.deq.state.mi.us/miwaters/external/home.
