UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Police officials are warning motorists and motorcyclists to be extra vigilant now that the warmer weather is bringing the two wheelers back out on the roadways, after a pair of collisions Sunday.
A 57-year-old Hastings man was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids early Sunday morning after he collided with a deer near Shriner St. and Hanover at about 2am. He was seriously injured.
A 31-year-old from Decatur was admitted to Bronson Methodist with life threatening injuries after he crashed into the side of a mini-van at 30th and 64th.
Van Buren County Deputies say the biker had the right of way, but was traveling at a high rate of speed when the van pulled into his path just after noon Sunday. Neither the female driver of the van nor her 1-year-old child was injured.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott says drivers have to watch for the smaller bikes and bikers need to realize they may be hard to see, and drive with caution.
