MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — As pothole season makes the slow transition to construction season in Michigan, road workers want you to be aware that their lives are in your hands.
This is Work Zone Awareness week, and with the state pouring more money into roads this year, the message from construction workers is heartfelt.
Michigan Department of Transportation’s Spokesman John Richard says 95% of all crashes are due to driver error.
Speeds are lower and fines are higher in work zones, and so are the prison sentences if you strike a worker.
The theme this year’s awareness campaign is “Drive Like You Work Here.”
MDOT is also asking Michiganders to show their support for the safety of road workers and everyone on the road, by wearing orange this Wednesday.
