KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a restaurant in downtown Kalamazoo.
Public Safety officers were called to Food Dance restaurant in the 400 block of East Michigan Avenue just before 11 a.m. Friday and found heavy smoke and fire billowing from the roof of the building.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze.
There were no reported injures and no structural damage to the building but there is water damage due to the sprinkler system.
East Michigan Avenue and Pitcher Street were closed for a couple hours as crews worked to put out the flames.
Investigators believe it was a kitchen fire that led up into the duct system of the building causing the rooftop smoke but the incident is still under investigation.
Food Dance is currently closed for the time being and it is unknown when they will reopen.
