DETROIT/LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan’s Democrats and Republicans will hold party conventions this weekend to set their final tickets heading into the November Elections and the moods couldn’t be more different.
Democrats will convene in Detroit with their line-up pretty much set, hoping for a big blue wave of voters to wash them to victory. While there are some divisions between traditional democrats and progressives, it’s not as profound as the divisions in the GOP.
Republicans find themselves badly fractured, with the head of the state party sending a tape instead of making an appearance. Rick Snyder is refusing to endorse the party’s choice to replace him, Bill Schuette, and is staying away from the convention.
Democrats plastered the Detroit location of the convention with Missing Posters featuring a likeness of the Governor as a prank.
There is also a devide between those who support President Trump and those who would rather not.
There could be a fight between Tom Leonard and Tonya Schuitmaker supporters over which should be the party’s pick to run for Attorney General.
Republicans hope to heal some wounds, promote unity and come together this weekend in Lansing.
