PAW PAW, MI (WTVB) – Marshall is among several schools in Michigan who have dropped the “Redskins” nickname in recent years, but Paw Paw is holding on to it.
By just a 4-to-3 vote last night, the school board passed a motion from board Vice President Aaron Mitchell to not only keep the name, but reinstate it at all schools in the district. Mitchell criticized people for calling him and the community racists for wanting to retain the nickname.
The move means the name will only be revisited if the school district loses government funding because of it.
