PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A website that carried the headline, “Sen. Margaret O’Brien wants Kzoo to be the next Charlottesville,” has been taken down at the request of several Democratic lawmakers after it was learned it may have been posted by a Senate Democratic staffer.
The Portage Republican told the MIRS news agency that she was sickened by the suggestion she might support white supremacists.
She said she immediately got on the phone to some of her democratic colleagues to complain about the online petition, sponsored by a group called “Michigan for the People”.
O’Brien, who has raised three African-American children, called it personally offensive and the other Democrats agreed. The website was taken down a few hours later.
O’Brien says being on a democratic target list is one thing, but this was someone who didn’t know her and just wanted to make political points.
